You never can be certain on which one Poe died from Alcohal or Rabbies. Because of the lack of evidence. I think it's a combination of alcohal and rabbies. No one really had all the facts straight to indicate Poe death. I think he could of been a alocoholic and after so many years it caught up with him. I also think he had rabies at the same time and that increased the chances of him dieing. In the text it says Poe started screaming names. Thats a symptom of Rabies.
He should have gone to the doctors the first time he felt a little or sick or going crazy. Alcohal makes your body dehydrated. So thats why he was thirsty but couln't drink because it hurt. I think he may have been scrathed by his cat but he was drunk so he didn't feel it. If he went to the doctors maybe his death could have been prevented.
Now you could tell Mr. Poe was a stupid drunken man. Maybe if he was more smart he would still be alive today. He would have cleaned his cut and got it treated early. So my conclusion is that Poe died from Rabies and Alcohal.
