In the Cay our hero, Phillip, leaves home with his mother because she wanted to get away from the war. He is then separated from her when the boat sank. He is brought aboard a raft by Timothy. During the next few months many things happen which changed Phillip into a better person. He creates a better world for himself because he looks at the world differently.
Phillip and his parents argued about leaving. They decided to leave so they left the island. Phillip never wanted to leave the island but he had to. They got on the S.S Hato and left. Phillip’s mom was secured because of the war. That’s why Phillip’s mom decided to leave. The Hato was torpedoed on there way to there journey.
Phillip lands on a deserted island in the middle of the Caribbean. He gets saved by Timothy. Timothy then becomes his mentor. He realizes that Phillip is blind because he couldn’t really see. Timothy prepares Phillip on how to get around the island. Timothy teaches him a lot of things about the island. Timothy slapped Phillip because he wants him to do something of his own. So then Phillip now’s how to fish and climb a tree. After this one storm there was Phillip gets right to work. He does that because he realizes he was doing a lot of things for him.
Phillip stayed in the island for about a month alone. He gets saved from the island. He gets back home but he still can’t see. He gets a lot of operations because he wants his sight to come back. All those operations helped Phillips sight come back, but he had to use glasses. He knows how it felt to be blind. Back then he didn’t like black people. But now he does. He spends all of his time at the market with them.
Phillip’s story shows a true Hero’s journey. Phillip is called away. During his journey he overcomes a lot with help from Timothy. Phillip proves himself an epic true hero.
