I think the main idea for "Gifts of the magi" is Della and Jim buy each other gift and the give up there possessions. One of my reasons I think that's the main idea beacuse she saves up money for months Jim a Chirstmas present.My seccond reason is in the story it say ther possessions were, for Jim it was his golden watch that was past down since his grandfather died. Della's was her hair it was as long as a cascade and brown. It reach below her knee's. My last reason was when dellas goes to madame to get her hair cut and she say "give it to me quick". which that means she didnt want to get her hair cut. When Della tells Jim to let her see his watch to but on the chain. He tells her "lets put our chirstmas presents away and keep em a while. Isold the to get mony for your combs.
